Kokshetau University named after Sh.Ualikhanov has been a leader in the higher education system of the Akmola region for more than 60 years.Over the years, the university has trained tens of thousands of specialists for the region and the country as a whole. The training is conducted in 60 bachelor's degree programs, 41 master's degree programs, 10 doctoral programs.The University coordinates, develops and implements joint educational and scientific projects within the framework of international and national programs. It is among the top 200 universities in the world according to a separate indicator of SDG No. 4 – Providing quality education, ranks 29th in the QS Central Asia world ranking, and also ranks 862nd in the international ranking of "Green" universities Green Metric UI – 2023.

University History

1962

Kokchetav Pedagogical Institute opens on July 25 under the leadership of Rector Ivan Stepanovich Gorokhvodatsky. The institute has one department, which includes Physics, Philology, and Mathematics.

1963

Separate faculties of Physics, Mathematics, and Philology are established.

1963

The general-technical faculty of Pavlodar Industrial Institute is founded, with engineer Mikhail Fedorovich Rysikov serving as its first director.

1965

On March 29, the institute is renamed after Chokan Chingizovich Valikhanov, the first Kazakh scholar and educator.

1966

The foreign languages department opens.

1972

Associate Professor Boyarskiy Evgeniy Ivanovich, a Candidate of Philological Sciences, becomes the new rector, and Associate Professor Zhulamanov K.D. is appointed as the vice-rector for educational work.

1972

The faculty is transferred to Karaganda Polytechnic Institute.

1979

The faculty for further training of directors is established.

1979

The Tselinograd Agricultural Institute opens a branch at the Kokchetav Valikhanov Institute on the specialties of Agronomy and Zootechnics. Docent Isatai Galievich Temreshev becomes the first director of the branch.

1980

A new specialty, Mechanization of Agriculture, is introduced.

1982

The Kazakh Language and Literature specialty is founded.

1984

A new specialty, Chemistry and Biology, is opened

a new teaching and laboratory building is constructed to accommodate the growing number of students, which increases from 400 to 2500.

1985

The Faculty of Chemistry and Biology is established

two new majors, Fine Arts and Design, and Informatics, are founded.

Professor Bakyt Gazizovich Junusov, PhD in economics becomes the new head of the branch.

1987

A new educational building for 1000 students is completed, and evening classes are offered in specialties such as Industrial and Civil Construction, Technology of Mechanical Engineering, and Automobiles and Automobile Economy.

1988

The Radio Technology specialty is opened.

1990

Associate Professor Kuandyk Dosmaganbetovich Zhulamanov is elected as the new rector

The Correspondence Department is opened at the faculty

1991

On January 9, the branch is reorganized into the Kokchetav Agricultural Institute, with Zhunusov B.G. serving as the new rector.

The first set of students for full-time education in the specialties of Economics and Management in Construction, and Engineering Technology are enrolled. With the support of mining companies, the specialty of Open-cast Mining of Minerals is also opened

Doctor of Physico-Mathematical Sciences, Professor Abay Ahmetgalievich Aitmuhambetov is appointed as the new rector

The Kokshetau branch of Karaganda Polytechnic Institute is established, with the candidacy of pedagogical sciences, associate professor K.A.Aitkozhin as its director

The first set of full-time students graduates from the institute

Ch. Ch. Valikhanov Kokshetau Pedagogical Institute was transformed into Sh. Ualikhanov Kokshetau University, S. Sadvakasov Agricultural Institute and a branch of the Karaganda Polytechnic Institute were a part of the University. This decision was made based on the order № 143 of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan on May 23, 1996. The first rector of the university was Professor Abay Aitmukhambetov, who held a Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences degree. During the first years after the transformation, the university focused on modernizing the educational process

1998

the three-level system of education was introduced, and a master's program was opened

2000

the University transitioned to the rating system of evaluating the effectiveness of teaching and methodological work, and a database of test tasks was developed for knowledge control

2001

the University was renamed to Republican State Enterprise "Shokan Ualikhanov Kokshetau State University "

2003

the University began using credit system for education

2005

the quality management system was introduced and the University received certification in accordance with international standards ISO 9001-2000

Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor Shakimashrip Ibraevich Ibraev became the rector of the University

Doctor of Engineering, Professor Naiman Bubeevich Kalabaev was appointed as the rector

the University was reorganized into the Republican State Enterprise on the right of economic management "Sh. Ualikhanov Kokshetau State University" of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Later that year, in December, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor Elyubaev Sagintay Zekenovich was appointed as the rector

Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Abdumutalip Abzhapparov was appointed to the position of the rector of the University

Marat Kadiruly Syrlybaev, PhD in Economics, became the new rector of the university
