Subkhankulov Mars Galeevich

Planet named Mars

“As if a warm tear dropped into my eyes, there in the heavenly heights someone remembered me.” On July 17, 2021, a memorial plaque in memory of the cosmic personality, a man from the planet of love, Subkhankulov Mars Galeevich (1935-2020) appeared on the house on Birzhan Sala Street, 29 in Kokshetau. On a rainy day, many connoisseurs of the Master’s teachings gathered: his students, friends, like-minded people, neighbors, colleagues, relatives. Mars Galeevich lived, joyfully meeting every minute of his life. “Happiness is you and your life. This will not happen again..." From the impromptu exhibition of the picturesque creations of Mars, the unique “energy spots”, organized right next to the house where the Master lived, everyone that day took with them a piece of his unfading, inextinguishable kindness. Blessing everything earthly, the soul of Mars from somewhere above continued to bestow gifts on the people he loved. The poet Lermontov has the line “I am pure, like a child’s tear,” and this confession wonderfully reflects the worldview of the outstanding psychologist of Kazakhstan, Mars Galeevich Subkhankulov. For half a century, the bright sage lived and worked in Kokshetau, where he arrived after graduating from the Faculty of Russian Language, Logic and Psychology at Kazan University. The list of regalia is overwhelmingly significant: vice-president of the Society of Psychologists of the Republic of Kazakhstan, member of the Central Council of the Society of Psychologists of the USSR in the 70-80s, honorary member of the International Association of Training Psychologists (New York, Brooklyn), scientific director of the Ocean-Art art therapy center in the capital. But in life, Mars was different, light, inspired and inspiring, motivating with his entire attitude towards people: a person deserves a better fate on this earth. One of the brightest personalities of Kokshetau, the creator of amazing paintings, an artist with poetry in his heart, a practicing psychologist, Subkhankulov completed his graduate studies at Kazan University, the oldest university in Russia, where Lenin and Trotsky studied. “After all, these are all happy moments of love” – Bulat Okudzhava’s lines amazingly illustrate the most interesting and significant research of the practitioner. “The psychology of individual style of activity” fascinated the scientist throughout his long life, in which everything was so clear, full and light. Mars Galeevich defended his candidate's dissertation on the peculiarities of psychophysiological resources in 1965 at Leningrad University under the guidance of Doctor of Psychology Wolf Solomonovich Merlin, who later became a congenial person for him. A guru for hundreds and thousands of followers scattered throughout the then huge power, Mars Galeevich was one of the first in the Soviet Union, from the first half of the 70s, within the walls of the Kokchetav Pedagogical Institute, to begin conducting psychological trainings, not only among students, but also with the most different people interested in science. From 1965 to 1995, Mars Galeevich taught at the Kokchetav Pedagogical Institute named after Valikhanov and for fifteen years of that time he headed the department of psychology at the university. He created an experimental psychological laboratory where research was carried out on the compatibility of machines and humans, which was a unique opportunity to solve the problems of differential psychology, the psychophysiological principle of multidimensional dependence. The laboratory dealt not only with the psychology of pedagogical activity, but also with issues of engineering psychology. In terms of technical equipment and scientific results, the laboratory was considered one of the leading in Kazakhstan. The research was carried out under the patronage of doctors of psychological sciences working at Moscow State University. The achievements of the psychological laboratory are obvious: 12 candidate dissertations were successfully defended. Thanks to the optimal conditions created for the development of professional growth of young specialists from the Department of Psychology, at the Kokchetav Pedagogical Institute named after Ch. Valikhanov, unique hardware installations and cabins were created for that time, and special simulators that made it possible to conduct modern scientific research in the laboratory. Gerasimov V.P., Sergeeva S.V., Sartorius T.D., Kukubaeva A.Kh., the scientist’s closest like-minded people, perceived Subkhankulov as a person capable of changing the world for the better. The energetic support and warm participation of colleagues from the Department of Psychology of the Pedagogical Institute gave Mars Galievich strength and energy, because psychology as a science not only transmits a person’s internal feelings to the outside world, but also helps to understand the essence of his true purpose. Deryugina Galina Nikolaevna, Kramarenko Boris Vasilievich, Kudabaeva Nurzhan Saparovna, Shayakhmetova Aisulu Alkeshovna are still faithful to the memory of Mars Galeevich, continuing the work of the teacher of teachers. By the way, promising psychologists from the Shokan Valikhanov Pedagogical Institute defended their dissertations at leading research institutes in Moscow and Leningrad, isn’t this the most reliable indicator of true professionalism. The department, headed by Mars Galeevich, effectively collaborated with the Faculty of Psychology of Moscow State University. The teaching methods were distinguished by their novelty: problem-based learning, the use of documentary and educational films, TSO, practice-oriented training with technical equipment, audiences for viewing educational films with special lighting. Much was done at the Valikhanov Pedagogical Institute under Subkhankulov for the first time: teaching practice, VIL - leader instructor camp, a system for preparing and defending theses by students. At the request of the territorial bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the department carried out psychological examinations of the behavior of juvenile offenders and provided consultations for parents of difficult teenagers. And how many all-Union psychological Olympiads and creative scientific conferences of young psychologists were held at that time, to which the luminaries of all-Union science were convened. Every successful psychotherapist in the republic is aware of the unique research of Mars Galeevich; his method of recognizing the inexhaustible possibilities of the human psyche was used in Germany and Russia. As the students aptly put it, Subkhankulov was for them “an obvious super-drug, a life-giving catalyst, causing powerful spiritually centering storms and whirlwinds in the circumstances surrounding his appearance and such an extraordinary presence.” It is unthinkable without aching melancholy to review the poignant film of the students-followers of Aikyn Dyusembayev, Zhanat Esmagambetov, Botagoz Ospanova, Asia Kukabaeva, Aiman Serikbaeva about the Teacher. “Mars is a planet, it’s an era, it’s a way of life, it’s all of us, infected by it with the virus of adventurism, the bacillus of psychology,” simultaneous interpreter from English Batyrkhan Zhulamanov expressively admits. Mars is truly multifaceted in creative self-expression: possessing an attractive magic of personality, he invariably amazed with the expressiveness of unexpected images of artistic photographic sketches exhibited in exhibition halls in Astana, Moscow, Spain and China. With the vision of his soul, Subkhankulov captures forever those moments that are always and in everyone’s mind, but invariably surprises the imagination with a stunning “Mars” vision: autumn grass, leaves flying in the wind in drops of dew, cracks on stones transformed into bizarre crystals, drops of oil on the water , cutaway plum... “I have a different face. I am water, I am this image, Revive me.” The novelty and freshness of his view of nature and the originality of his perspective are captivating; it is no coincidence that his sketches have a psychotherapeutic effect. Researcher, experimenter, innovator of a practical psychological school, professor, a man ahead of his time, a successor of the ideas of studying the integral personality, styles of integral individuality, and this is all about him, about Mars. What are the origins of the personality of a psychologist? He was born on the eve of the Great Terror, in 1935. His wartime childhood and the death of his father at the front left a painful mark on the soul of the wounded man. “You, Mars, with your extraordinary worldview need to go into psychology...” advised the school teacher, seeing a spark of God in the young man. The most dear, dear person forever - mother, Absalyamova Taiba Shagabutdinovna, understood her son like no one else in the world. The native village of Bakaly is located on the banks of the Syun River in Bashkiria. Do not forget, remember your ancestors on your father’s side up to the seventh generation in Turkic blood... The history of the merchant family was preserved and cherished in the family. During the Russian-Turkish War, one of the Subkhankulovs’ ancestors ransomed captured soldiers of the Russian army in Turkey, sending them home. This episode, the hidden pride of descendants, is described in Melnikov’s work “On the Mountains.” The free-thinking father of Mars, Galei Galeevich, was twice arrested and repressed for slanderous denunciations. The son had not yet gone to school, when the arrest of his father, declared an “enemy of the people,” fell like an avalanche of grief on their family, who drank the cup of bitter humiliation in full. As a teenager, Mars went out every morning to the nearest road and asked drivers of passing cars to bring the folder home. The house stood on the outskirts of the village, the mother recalled: some close relatives, seeing one of the Subkhankulovs, treacherously hiding their eyes and remained silent. They were even afraid to greet the wife of the “enemy” of the people and his children. One early morning, young Mars loudly announced to his family: “Daddy will be back today!” Nobody believed him, they thought the boy was making it up, dreaming about the return of his loved one. Father actually returned that morning, he was released from prison, calling on him to atone for “guilt” with blood at the front, where Galei Galeevich was killed. The psychological tree, according to Mars Galeevich, began with Wilhelm Wundt, the founder of experimental psychology and the greatest psychologist, physiologist and morphologist of Bekhterev. The scientific researcher has developed his own system of training for psychological support of individuality and personality development, skillfully integrating knowledge about human individuality in search of conditions for “provoking” changes in a person’s individuality through group forms of “open meetings.” At that time, such trainings were unusual and did not fit into the system of practical group forms of training, but today they are in demand more than ever. “In the training situation itself, “here and now,” you won’t learn anything, and knowledge won’t come to you either. And regarding what is happening in you, this is the “observing I.” The author’s personal growth training, “Mars training in spiritual acrobatics,” turned many of his students upside down, plowed them up, forcing them to realize themselves and life differently. In picturesque Imantava, every summer in June, Gulfiya Omarova and her friends from the psychological club “Here and Now,” students of Mars Galeevich, enthusiastically conduct the psychological intensive “Full Immersion” in the format of body-oriented therapy: reboot, renewal, rebirth. Gulfiya Omarova, like a great many students of Mars Galeevich, embodies in real action the lessons of the sensei, spiritual Teacher, founder of the training culture in the USSR. Subkhankulov’s trainings are capable of “provoking” the disclosure of innate resources, indicators are visible and invisible changes in the culture of presenting oneself to the world: “they look carefully and openly into the eyes, greet joyfully, communicate lively, are spontaneous in self-expression and self-realization, awareness of their “I-concept.” Throughout his long life, Subkhankulov studied a person’s ability to be happy and adaptive in society, and isn’t this what many authors of their own educational programs and methods strive for? Mars Galeevich conducted trainings not only for his students, but also, together with his students, organized training throughout Kazakhstan and abroad; they conducted more than a thousand trainings not only in Kazakhstan, but also in Russia, Ukraine, CIS countries, and China. Groups of 12-18 people ritually knock with sticks, touch with hands and silently look into each other's eyes, lift the participant's body, violating the understanding of gravity. Outwardly, it seemed that the picture looked easy and fun, the participants synchronized in a fluent reading of poems from one to another, to the third and further in a circle. As if “magic” (transformation) happens in a child’s game, the psychologist skillfully guides the participants from the rapprochement of the physical to the psychological. And self-awareness through overcoming constriction and internal attitudes can be called a process of turning inward: the group, being a living mirror, helps to accept the new self. In a word, truly spiritual acrobatics. The last stage of the training is like a confession: one leaves the circle for the “hot chair” and listens to all the most unpleasant things about himself from others. Mars Galeevich was seriously interested in yoga and meditation, daily improving his faceted body with hours of training. A wonderful father almost single-handedly raised his daughter Evgenia and son Andrei. Zhenya, an artist, lives in Obninsk, Kaluga region. Father and daughter often exhibited together in art galleries and exhibition venues with their “projective photographs”, paintings using the batik technique, similar to creative symbols, signs, and abstract color lines. He was rarely addressed by his patronymic. Even the students simply called him Mars, and there was no familiarity in this, rather a manifestation of some kind of spiritual unity. “This is a very bright personality, a historical figure. He rarely spoke frankly, but sometimes, when we talked about our complexes, he briefly remembered that he was “the son of an enemy of the people.” Having overcome his internal constraints, he revealed himself as a person and remained for us a man with a capital “P” - as a psychologist, a master of his craft, but first of all as a very humane person... After communicating with him, you do not remain the same person you were before. I think that in the soul of everyone who knew him, he continues to live,” shared Aiman Sadvakasova, a follower of Mars Galeevich. “I was lucky enough to work with him. It was the teacher of teachers. I remember him, of course, as modest and simple, but he emanated a special aura, a universal vision, he inspired those around him who were amazed by his love for life,” recalls Kokchetav Pedagogical Institute graduate, history teacher Saule Abisheva. A successful practicing psychologist, now working in Almaty, Botagoz Ospanova told how meeting Mars Galeevich turned her life upside down and forced her to choose a future profession: “There is no official school of Mars Subkhankulov, but in life we are all his students. Both in Kazakhstan and abroad, his followers work and implement the methods of his “spiritual acrobatics”. For some time, our Teacher was engaged in acrobatics, training actors of the Russian drama theater, which formed the basis of his original training. After he passed away, we created the YouTube channel “Mars as a Planet” and publications about the Teacher on Wikipedia.” “My father was everything in my life, and there are not enough words to express my gratitude, gratitude for the love, care and attention in our childhood. At the same time, his love and attention extended not only to me, but also to all residents of Kokshetau. He brought world culture here, introduced people to world cinema stars and world trends in psychology. He was distinguished by his extraordinary friendliness - this is the main quality that he conveyed. He treated everyone around him evenly, carefully, and tenderly,” admitted Evgenia. “To the question “What needs to be done to prolong life?”, Mars Galeevich unequivocally stated: “Create joyful moments for a person.” But in the daily rush of efficiency and workaholism, we all become immersed in solving inescapable problems, sometimes simply forgetting about the joys of life,” admits the head of the department of culture of the Akmola region, Aigul Baubekovna Sabitova. Mars is not just one planet - it is the whole cosmos. The uniqueness of Mars Galeevich lies in his special gift of seeing the amazing in the ordinary. With age, the foreman of the Spirit did not at all lose this property, but fervently recreated the feeling: before him, like before each of us, the world invariably and every second opens up anew. To live is to be born slowly... And isn’t this priceless advice for us: “Meet the strange requests of your adult teachers, parents, and loved ones. Especially if they ask in a way they have never asked before. If they insist. If it seems inconvenient, impractical, costly. Go and do it. This may be the last thing you can do for them." Close, beloved, dear forever Teacher, with whom we were happy to be close, feeling the invisible invisible support of hundreds and thousands of students who still feel the physically healing, tangible presence on the earth and in the sky of the planet named Mars. Man-cosmos, healer of humanity souls, a professor of psychology, a mentor inspired from above is alive and will live in them and for them.
