Topicality

Due to the depletion of the mineral resource base of gold and polymetallic ores of Kazakhstan, the optimization of the technology of gold extraction from anthropogenic raw materials is of fundamental importance. In recent years in the field of gold mining works on involvement in processing of raw materials with low initial content of useful components are carried out. The method of heap leaching by surface irrigation with chemical reagents is in demand for the processing of ores with low gold content. Despite its advantages, traditional heap leaching technology has a number of significant disadvantages: low gold recovery rate, long leaching process, seasonality, climatic peculiarities and environmental impact.

The project is based on the innovative idea of using the resource potential of anthropogenic raw materials in the gold mining industry and increasing the mineral resource base, the issue of optimization of technological parameters and design solutions of the traditional method of heap leaching is considered. The use of controlled flow technology in the process of heap leaching, by drilling wells and deep extraction of gold from technogenic raw materials, which offers a solution to the problem of inefficient use of technogenic waste at gold deposits. Approbation of the innovative method of controlled flows for deep gold extraction at the heap leaching site, will allow to realize the time forecast of processes and make appropriate adjustments, which contributes to the rational processing of raw materials and reduce the impact on the environment. This approach will increase gold recovery and profitability of production and allow efficient utilization of depleted raw material resources. This method, characterized by innovative features in the field of gold extraction technology, has not previously had practical application in industrial production processes.

Based on the above factors, the project has a high potential for commercialization and promotion of socio-economic scientific and technological development of the republic.

Objective

Development of an effective process for extracting gold from technogenic raw materials using an innovative method of controlled flows in heap leaching to increase the gold recovery coefficient.

Project outcomes

Conducting physico-chemical analyses and initial leach tests using an innovative controlled flow method. This step will provide information on the potential of the technology and its applicability for gold recovery.

- Investigation of the process of gold recovery from man-made raw materials using the innovative controlled flow method in heap leaching. At this stage, determination of optimal leaching process parameters, such as temperature, pressure, pH and concentration of reagents, in order to assess their impact on the efficiency of gold recovery.

- Conducting extensive laboratory tests of the improved technology of gold recovery using an innovative method of controlled flows in heap leaching. This stage implies approbation of the technology in production conditions.

- Publication of 2 (two) articles in journals from the first two quartiles of the impact factor in the Web of Science database or having a CiteScore percentile of at least 50 in the Scopus database.

Thus, the research is aimed at the development and optimization of the method of gold recovery using an innovative method of controlled flows in heap leaching, with subsequent testing in real production conditions.

The project performer plans to participate in the international conference and symposium and to make presentations in them in the areas corresponding to the subject of the project.

The results of the research can be applied for optimization of gold heap leaching processes at mining enterprises, as well as the results can be useful for academic researchers and educational institutions engaged in geotechnology, mining, ore processing and beneficiation.
