From 24 to 28 February 2025, the Department of Clinical Disciplines held lectures for 7th-year students within the framework of the discipline "Gerontology". The lectures were given by Smagulova A.K.  

  • During the classes, key aspects of gerontology were considered:  
  • Geriatrics and gerontology: definition, classification of older age groups. Changes in the human body during aging. Algorithm for questioning and examining a patient.

Comprehensive geriatric assessment. Functional status. Assessment scales - cognitive and mental status. Assessment of emotional and social status.

Features of pharmacotherapy of an elderly patient. Polypharmacy and undesirable side effects of drugs.

Gait, headaches, dizziness, falls, syncope , sleep disorders in old age.

Senile asthenia and sarcopenia . Malnutrition syndrome in the elderly. Etiology, pathogenesis, clinical features, diagnostics. Assessment of nutritional status. Management tactics.

  • The lectures allowed students to deepen their knowledge in the field of geriatrics, which is especially important for future general practitioners.
