SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT (SARUD)
561969-EPP-1-2015-1-DE-EPPKA2-CBHE-JP
The majority of agricultural rural areas in the Russian Federation and Kazakhstan are characterized by dramatic changes in the agricultural and food sectors associated with privatization, modernization, and increasing differences between large-scale agricultural holdings and small-scale farms. The importance of rural development and the need to develop a perspective for agricultural land use is recognized by both policy and education.
In this regard, there is a lack of development strategies and integrated approaches at external or local level, as well as modern methods and qualified people to assess and further develop agroecosystem services, which are the basis not only for agricultural production but also for environmental and social services. There is a need to educate and train professionals to adopt theoretical development concepts for specific local conditions, access (international) experience and apply modern methods for assessing agro-ecosystems and natural resources and for planning agricultural land use and management.
Therefore, the aim of the proposed SARUD project is:
- development of a professional Master's programme in sustainable agriculture and rural development, taking into account the demand for specialists from public services, local and regional authorities, private service providers and enterprises; development and implementation of practice-oriented curricula by three Russian universities representing different regions and three universities in Northern Kazakhstan together with partners in local working groups.
- Situational analysis and experiences at local and regional levels are enriched and used through the development of a knowledge platform in the field of sustainable agricultural development and integrated rural development with the involvement of national network partners.
- Through the project activities, the training of competencies for the agricultural sector and other educational faculties and their interregional network will be strengthened.
