On May 6, 2025, Ualikhanov University hosted Her Excellency Ms. Katie Litch, the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to the Republic of Kazakhstan.

During her visit, Ms. Litch met with the university's leadership, where they discussed prospects for scientific and educational cooperation between Kazakhstan and the United Kingdom, particularly in the fields of agricultural and environmental research.

The visit also included a screening of the documentary "Six Inches of Soil," which highlights issues related to soil fertility restoration, the implementation of sustainable agricultural practices, and the development of eco-friendly farming. The film tells the story of British farmers who have moved away from intensive agriculture in favor of environmentally safe and restorative methods aimed at improving soil quality and preserving biodiversity.

The screening attracted the attention of students, faculty, and representatives from the agricultural sector. After the viewing, a discussion took place in which participants emphasized the importance of topics such as soil degradation, climate change, and food security. Special focus was given to the potential adaptation of international practices to Kazakhstan’s conditions, particularly in agricultural regions.

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, speaking at the World Climate Summit in Baku in November 2024, remarked:

"Kazakhstan, with 200 million hectares of agricultural land, is an ideal platform for 'carbon farming.'"

These approaches not only help reduce greenhouse gas emissions but also play a crucial role in restoring soil fertility—one of Kazakhstan’s most valuable resources. Such methods open new opportunities for the sustainable development of agriculture and strengthening the country's food security.

Ualikhanov University expresses its sincere gratitude to the British Embassy and personally to Ms. Katie Litch for her visit and contribution to the development of bilateral dialogue. The event marked an important step in expanding the university’s international ties and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
