Professor Nurbek Sagynbekuly Igissin, Doctor of Medical Sciences at Ualikhanov University took part in the study led by Professor Abduzhappar Erkinovich Gaipov of Nazarbayev University, which focused on the epidemiology of liver cancer in Kazakhstan.
The study analyzed data from 10,455 patients, making it one of the most comprehensive investigations of liver cancer conducted in the country. The findings revealed increasing trends in cancer incidence and mortality, identified regional disparities, and highlighted key risk factors, including age, gender, liver cirrhosis, and residence in rural areas.
The results are of significant practical relevance for the Akmola Region, as they provide an evidence base for planning cancer prevention measures, improving screening strategies, optimizing patient referral pathways, and developing targeted programs to reduce cancer-related mortality.
The publication of this research in PLOS ONE underscores the high scientific standards of Kazakhstani researchers and demonstrates the importance of integrating national and regional research efforts into large-scale, internationally recognized studies.
