On the eve of Science Day, Aigul Zhakupova, Vice-Rector for Research and Regional Engagement at Ualikhanov University, held an extended meeting focused on organizing the university’s scientific research activities. The event marked the symbolic launch of Science Month, traditionally celebrated in April.

The meeting brought together heads of institutes and schools, department chairs, directors of university departments, as well as leaders of research projects funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education (including the “Zhas Galym” program and Young Scientists competitions), and projects supported through internal university funding. This professional community forms the university’s core scientific potential and defines its strategic direction.

During the meeting, participants reviewed the outcomes of research activities in 2025 and outlined key priorities for 2026. Special attention was paid to increasing the effectiveness of scientific research, enhancing its practical relevance, and implementing developments in the real sector of the economy. The importance of aligning research activities with societal needs and fostering an innovative ecosystem was also emphasized.

Vice-Rector highlighted priorities set at the national level. With 2026 declared the Year of Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence and the establishment of an Innovation Hub under the Government, new expectations have been placed on the scientific community.
In this context, the meeting stressed the importance of actively using digital technologies in research, fostering interdisciplinary approaches, and adhering to principles of research ethics.Key issues related to the implementation of research projects were also discussed, including:

  • compliance with project timelines;
  • strengthening oversight of project execution;
  • preparation for upcoming grants and program-targeted funding competitions by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education

The meeting emphasized the importance of internal review and auditing of project proposals to enhance their quality and competitiveness

Special attention was given to the development of scientific personnel, including ensuring compliance with qualification requirements for research advisors, strengthening their role in mentoring doctoral students, and providing systematic support to ensure timely dissertation defenses.
