Rae Kwon Chung is an advisor to the UN Secretary-General on climate change issues and a Nobel Peace Prize laureate as part of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in 2007.He was born in South Korea and graduated from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., with a Master of Science in International Affairs.Since the early 1990s, he has been involved in environmental and climate change issues. He was an active participant in the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro.He is one of the co-authors of the 2007 IPCC report and the author of the concept of "green growth" (or "green economy"), which is based on the principle of achieving economic growth while preserving ecological balance for the benefit of future generations.He served as Director-General at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of South Korea and was also Director of the Environment and Development Division of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP).
