Research by a Ualikhanov University Professor Published in a Leading Q1 International Journal
As part of the grant-funded research project of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2024–2026, titled *“Clinical, Diagnostic and Morphological Determinants of Colon Diseases in Kazakhstan: Innovative Approaches and Solutions”* (IRN AP23484165), another scientific article has been published in one of the world’s leading Q1 international journals - Frontiers in Oncology. The project is being implemented at Ualikhanov University under the supervision of Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Nurbek Igissin.
The article, *“Spatial patterns, temporal trends, and age-period-cohort effects of colon cancer incidence in Kazakhstan, 2005-2024,”* explores spatial patterns, temporal trends, and age-period-cohort effects of colon cancer incidence in Kazakhstan over the period from 2005 to 2024.
The study utilized national population-based data and advanced epidemiological methods, including Joinpoint regression analysis, geospatial mapping, spatial cluster analysis (Getis–Ord Gi), and Age–Period–Cohort modeling. This comprehensive approach made it possible not only to assess disease dynamics, but also to identify regional disparities in cancer incidence across the country.
The findings revealed significant territorial differences and a persistent north-to-south gradient in colon cancer incidence, reflecting the uneven epidemiological situation across different regions of Kazakhstan. The results have important scientific and practical value and may contribute to the improvement of national programs for cancer prevention, early diagnosis, and control.
Publication in a Q1-ranked journal confirms the high international standard of research conducted at Ualikhanov University and highlights the contribution of Kazakhstani scientists to the development of modern oncoepidemiology and evidence-based medicine.
Project AP23484165 is aimed at developing innovative approaches to studying the clinical, diagnostic, and morphological characteristics of colon diseases in Kazakhstan.
