Ualikhanov University discusses the role of the Kurultai in Kazakhstan’s evolving political landscape

Today, Ualikhanov University hosted a roundtable discussion titled “A New Political Milestone: The Kurultai and a New Direction for Socio-Political Development,” bringing together members of the University’s academic community.

The event took place on the same day as the first session of the first convocation of the Kurultai of the Republic of Kazakhstan, attended by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Against this backdrop, the discussion focused on the role of the Kurultai in Kazakhstan’s evolving political system, the outcomes of the recent elections, civic participation, and the importance of strengthening political and legal awareness in society.

The roundtable was moderated by Ardak Kapyshyev, Vice-Rector for Social and Cultural Development at Ualikhanov University, Candidate of Historical Sciences and Associate Professor.

Raushan Zhussupova, Senior Lecturer at the Department of History, Geography and Social Sciences and Humanities, spoke on “The Kurultai Elections: The Role of Civic Participation in Kazakhstan’s Development,” highlighting the importance of informed and meaningful public participation in the country’s political and social processes.

Evgeny Maksimenko, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Law, presented on “The Kurultai as a New Form of Kazakhstan’s Highest Representative Body,” examining its role and place within the country’s political system.

The roundtable continued with an open exchange of views on the broader significance of the Kurultai elections, the responsibilities of the new representative body, and the political transformations taking place across the country.

By providing a space for expert discussion and open dialogue, Ualikhanov University continues to encourage a deeper understanding of major socio-political developments, strengthen political and legal awareness, and promote responsible civic engagement.
