Ualikhanov University has officially opened the sixth academic season of its Silver University, an educational initiative designed for older adults.
The event welcomed Professor François Vellas, President of the International Association of Universities of the Third Age (AIUTA), as its guest of honour. Representatives of Silver Universities from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan also joined the opening ceremony.
Professor Vellas’ visit marks an important step in strengthening international cooperation in education for older adults. Ualikhanov University has been a member of AIUTA since 2024 and continues to advance lifelong learning while expanding connections between Kazakhstan’s Silver Universities and the international academic community.
During his visit, Professor Vellas met with representatives of the Kazakhstan Association of Silver Universities (KASU). The discussions focused on the development of Universities of the Third Age, international knowledge and experience sharing, new educational formats, and opportunities for further cooperation with AIUTA. Today, the Association brings together 15 universities and more than 1,500 learners, helping expand educational opportunities for older adults and strengthen international collaboration.
This academic year, Silver University offers a wide range of educational and personal development courses, including English, psychology, business fundamentals, computer and digital literacy, social media marketing, artificial intelligence, legal literacy, first aid, and many other areas.
It is particularly meaningful that the new season begins in October, a month when special attention is given to older generations. Silver University creates opportunities to gain new knowledge and skills, connect with others, pursue personal growth, and share valuable life experience with younger generations. It is a space for lifelong learning where age is no barrier to learning, growing, and discovering something new.
